With the third and final Group Stage of round-robin matches in the Super Six World Boxing Classic fast approaching, SHOWTIME Sports® announced on Tuesday the official tie-break regulations for Semi-Final seeding.
Following Group Stages 1 and 2, only WBA world super middleweight champion Andre Ward has locked up one of the four coveted Semi-Final berths while no other fighter has been eliminated from contention. With the five other competitors still alive—separated by three points or less—Group Stage 3 promises to deliver the most dramatic and compelling fights of the groundbreaking tournament.
Carl “the Cobra” Froch will be joining up with highly regarded trainer Rob McCracken at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Monday morning (26th) to start his intensive 10 week training camp ahead of his crucial Super Six Group Stage 3 face off against the German based Armenian “King” Arthur Abraham.
It was officially announced last week that the last of the Super Six group stage matches will take place in the swanky surroundings of the world’s 2nd smallest country, Principality of Monaco, at the fabulous Chapiteau de l’Espace venue in the ward of Fontvieille, on Saturday 2nd October.
Following weeks of intense negotiations, SHOWTIME Sports® is proud to announce that Hennessy Sports and Sauerland Event—the promotional outlets for world-class super middleweight boxers Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham—have agreed to a location for their fighters’ crucial Super Six World Boxing Classic bout. On Saturday, Oct. 2, in the capital city/state of Monaco, Abraham and Froch will meet at the Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille for their pivotal Group Stage 3 match up in the boxing tournament that has ignited the industry. The bout will be televised on SHOWTIME® at 9 p.m. ET/PT (same day delay).
Hennessy Sports and Sauerland Event are currently working with Principality officials in Monaco to finalize all the necessary authorizations for this event as they expect it to be one of the biggest fights in the history of the region. The Principality of Monaco is situated on the Mediterranean Sea in the south west area of Europe, some 1,400 km from Abraham’s home in Berlin and over 1,000 km from Froch’s native Nottingham, England.
Team Sauerland is delighted to confirm that WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Carl Froch will be flown into either North Germany or Denmark with a private jet on Tuesday afternoon. The undefeated 32-year-old missed today´s public work-out in Herning after the Iceland Volcano had KOed his original travel plans. “We are delighted to have things sorted out and bring the Cobra to Herning for his Super Six showdown with Mikkel Kessler,” said Kalle Sauerland. “He will manage to defy one volcano by hiring a private jet, but he will be in trouble when another volcano – the Viking Volcano – erupts in the ring on Saturday night.”
Froch is looking forward to his second-round Super Six World Boxing Classic fight with Kessler. “I am happy that all travel arrangements are sorted,” the Cobra said. “Not that it had me worried – I knew I was going to get there somehow – but I´m glad I can now fully focus on the fight against Mikkel. It will not be a happy night for all the Danish fans in attendance, I am the best Super Middleweight in the World and I am flying in to take care of business.”
Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports®, cannot wait for the first bell either. “My hat’s off to Sauerland Event and Hennessy Sports for their efforts to keep the event on schedule,” Hershman said. “It’s on! Carl Froch will meet Mikkel Kessler in the center of the ring at the sold-out MCH Arena in Denmark this Saturday for their anticipated Group Stage 2 matchup. We have contingency plans in place for our coverage on SHOWTIME and our viewers are in for yet another crucial and intense super middleweight bout. The question at this point is not, ‘Will the fight happen?’ But rather, ‘What will happen in the fight?’ Can Kessler get on the scoreboard and recapture the world title? Can Froch pull ahead in points and all but secure himself a coveted semifinal berth? Or simply, ‘Who will win this battle?’ No one knows. We have seen so many surprising turns thus far in the Super Six World Boxing Classic and we are barely halfway through the Group Stage. I can’t wait for the first bell.”
Meanwhile, Kessler pleased his home fans by signing autographs for more than 30 minutes following today´s crowded work-out at the Herning Shopping Centret. “I am in great shape,” the Viking Warrior said. “I am glad that Froch has finally decided to show up. Maybe he is a little scared. I don´t know and I don´t care – I will knock him out on Saturday to secure the first three points of the tournament!”
Kalle Sauerland has confirmed that the Super Six World Boxing Classic Clashbetween WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Carl Froch and Danish hero Mikkel Kessler (April 24) willgo ahead as planned despite multiple airspace closures throughout Europe. The “Cobra” was scheduledto fly from Great Britain to Denmark tomorrow, but with most of the European airports shut down untilfurther notice, he might be forced to make different arrangements. “We will make sure the Cobra gets toHerning in good time to fight Mikkel,” Kessler´s promoter Kalle Sauerland said. “The Volcano cannotserve as an excuse for Froch not to show up. Nothing can prevent the biggest boxing fight in Danishhistory from happening. We are already looking into different ways of transportation. Should need be, wewill fly Froch in by helicopter for Mikkel to knock him out. He can then take the boat back home – onceMikkel is done with him, I doubt he will be allowed on a normal plane anyway.”
With only two days to go until the next Super Six World Boxing Classic fight the WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch is weighing up who is most likely to win and who he will be backing between former IBF middleweight title holder ‘King’ Arthur Abraham and Andre ‘The Matrix’ Dirrell.
“I can't pick a winner because it’s in the States. I really am 50 / 50” Said The Cobra of the second round fight due to be aired live in the UK on Primetime Channel 480 on Sky this Saturday night.
But when pushed Carl leaned towards Abraham, urging him to beat Dirrell as he did in the first round of the Super Six after a split decision. Froch said:
“It will either be a brutal KO by Abraham or a boring points decision by Dirrell with a bitch like performance. Come on Abraham... Catch him sweet!”
Carl will be facing Mikkel Kessler on the of 4th April, also shown on Primetime, and this weekend’s fight is the perfect bout to get you hyped for next month’s action. At the reduced price of only £5.95 there’s no reason to miss the action!
Livefight.com got in touch with WBC super middleweight champion to see what he made of the comments thrown his way by retired former champion, Joe Calzaghe yesterday.
Carl Froch laughed when he heard that Joe Calzaghe had called him a “spoilt, little bitch” in a recent interview.
