Super Six Tie Break

With the third and final Group Stage of round-robin matches in the Super Six World Boxing Classic fast approaching, SHOWTIME Sports® announced on Tuesday the official tie-break regulations for Semi-Final seeding.

Following Group Stages 1 and 2, only WBA world super middleweight champion Andre Ward has locked up one of the four coveted Semi-Final berths while no other fighter has been eliminated from contention.  With the five other competitors still alive—separated by three points or less—Group Stage 3 promises to deliver the most dramatic and compelling fights of the groundbreaking tournament.

Carl “the Cobra” Froch will be joining up with highly regarded trainer Rob McCracken at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Monday morning (26th) to start his intensive 10 week training camp ahead of his crucial Super Six Group Stage 3 face off against the German based Armenian  “King” Arthur Abraham.

It was officially announced last week that the last of the Super Six group stage matches will take place in the swanky surroundings of the world’s 2nd smallest country, Principality of Monaco, at the fabulous Chapiteau de l’Espace venue in the ward of Fontvieille, on Saturday 2nd October.

Following weeks of intense negotiations, SHOWTIME Sports® is proud to announce that Hennessy Sports and Sauerland Event—the promotional outlets for world-class super middleweight boxers Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham—have agreed to a location for their fighters’ crucial Super Six World Boxing Classic bout. On Saturday, Oct. 2, in the capital city/state of Monaco, Abraham and Froch will meet at the Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille for their pivotal Group Stage 3 match up in the boxing tournament that has ignited the industry. The bout will be televised on SHOWTIME® at 9 p.m. ET/PT (same day delay).

Hennessy Sports and Sauerland Event are currently working with Principality officials in Monaco to finalize all the necessary authorizations for this event as they expect it to be one of the biggest fights in the history of the region. The Principality of Monaco is situated on the Mediterranean Sea in the south west area of Europe, some 1,400 km from Abraham’s home in Berlin and over 1,000 km from Froch’s native Nottingham, England.

DETROIT (March 28, 2010) — Wilfried Sauerland has no doubts that Super Six World Boxing Classic
tournament point leader King Arthur Abraham would have knocked Andre Dirrell out had it not been for
his controversial disqualification in the 11th round. “After a slow start, Arthur was finally landing his power
punches,” Sauerland said. “He clearly knocked Dirrell down in the tenth and was following it up in the
11th. There is no way Dirrell would have seen the end of the 12th round.”
After reviewing the tape, Sauerland stated that a clearly exhausted Dirrell seized his chance to sneak out
of the fight when the chance presented itself, especially with Abraham upping pressure before the
controversial ending. “The TV pictures indicate that Dirrell was down, but there is no way Arthur could
have realized that in the heat of the moment. He was just trying to keep up the attack. However, Dirrell is
a very good actor. We are glad that his check-up at the hospital turned out just fine but frankly we did not
expect any other outcome since he was just acting. He deserves an Oscar for his performance.”
The 26-year-old American was taken to hospital after the fight. “I wish him all the best and hope he is

Not satisfied with Arthur Abraham’s underhanded performance against Andre Dirrell on Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena, which would warrant his suspension by most members of the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC), Abraham’s promoter Wilfried Sauerland issued a release on Sunday accusing Dirrell of seizing “…his chance to sneak out of the fight when the chance presented itself…Dirrell is a very good actor.”

The “chance” Sauerland was referring to was when Dirrell (19-1, 13 KOs), of Flint, Mich., did the “splits” after slipping in Abraham’s (31-1, 25 KOs), of Germany, water-soaked corner, and while on one knee and defenseless got knocked out by a sweeping Abraham right.  Referee Laurence Cole immediately stopped the fight at 1:13 of the 11th round, awarding the victory, via disqualification, to Dirrell, who was leading on all three judges’ scorecards by 98-91, 97-92 and 97-92.  It was the opening bout of the Group Stage 2 of the Super Six World Boxing Classic

With only two days to go until the next Super Six World Boxing Classic fight the WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch is weighing up who is most likely to win and who he will be backing between former IBF middleweight title holder ‘King’ Arthur Abraham and Andre ‘The Matrix’ Dirrell.

“I can't pick a winner because it’s in the States. I really am 50 / 50” Said The Cobra of the second round fight due to be aired live in the UK on Primetime Channel 480 on Sky this Saturday night.

But when pushed Carl leaned towards Abraham, urging him to beat Dirrell as he did in the first round of the Super Six after a split decision. Froch said:

“It will either be a brutal KO by Abraham or a boring points decision by Dirrell with a bitch like performance. Come on Abraham... Catch him sweet!”

Carl will be facing Mikkel Kessler on  the of 4th April, also shown on Primetime, and this weekend’s fight is the perfect bout to get you hyped for next month’s action. At the reduced price of only £5.95 there’s no reason to miss the action!

With less than two weeks before their group stage 2 bout, Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO's) and Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO's) will clash in the SUPER SIX WORLD BOXING CLASSIC showdown on March 27 from Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., at 10:30 pm ET/PT on SHOWTIME®. The Measurement Of A Fight or as most would refer, The Tale Of The Tape gives you the physical measurements of a fighters advantages and disadvantages over the other. Only one will prevail when Dirrell pits his greater size, speed and athleticism against Abraham's accurate counter punching, defense and versatility. But there is one thing that the Tale Of The Tape cannot give you, the size of a fighters heart, determination and will to win. And that's where this fight will be decided.
