Marquez vs Katsidis

Written by Arvin Nundloll

Lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez has agreed to fight Michael Katsidis at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas on Nov. 27.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said Marquez has accepted the terms of a deal to defend his WBO belt against Katsidis, the all-action Australian slugger.

Schaefer outlined a busy fall for his company's fighters during a workout in Hollywood on Wednesday by Sugar Shane Mosley, who will meet Sergio Mora at Staples Center on Sept. 18.

Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KOs) generally is considered Mexico's top boxer. He decisively won a rematch with Juan Diaz on July 31 in his first fight since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year.

Written by Arvin Nundloll

Earlier tonight, Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and Warriors Boxing presented an action-packed seven bout card before a jam packed house at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK. The show, broadcast live on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" was headlined by IBF #3 rated welterweight contender, Delvin Rodriguez taking on England's Ashley Theophane, in a ten round welterweight contest.

Both fighters came out and immediately began firing shots, setting the pace right from the get go. The taller Rodriguez was the more accurate of the two, with Theophane looking to land looping shots over Rodriguez's stiff jab.

McDonnell Defeats Bracco

Written by Arvin Nundloll

Jamie McDonnell made a successful first defence of his European bantamweight title in front of his home fans on Friday night.

The Doncaster fighter - who has enjoyed so much success on the road over the past year - stopped Italian Rodrigo Bracco inside three rounds at the Doncaster Dome.

It was an impressive display from the 24-year-old former plasterer, as he took his professional record to 15-2-1.

McDonnell was happy to use his longer reach to probe away with his jab in the opening two rounds, comfortably keeping the 30-year-old Bracco at arms length.

But when he went fully on the offensive towards the end of the third round, the fight ended surprisingly quickly.Staggering

Bracco was quickly staggering under the weight of shots to both head and body and his legs had clearly gone as he reeled around the ring.

McDonnell had his man trapped on the ropes and was about to unleash further punishment when the referee rightly stepped in to end the contest two minutes and 53 seconds into the third round.

"I'm over the moon. It became an easy fight. He's only small and I felt like I was destroying him with the jab.

"I got caught with a few when I started letting go but you are going to get caught with one or two, so I am well pleased with that performance."

Chavez (42-0-1) dominated the early part of the fight with a steady dose of hooks and jabs, but Duddy (29-2) kept the pressure on and pushed Chavez to 12 rounds for the first time in his eight-year career.

"John is the toughest fighter I've faced so far," Chavez said. "He kept the pressure on and really pushed me farther than I've been to this point in my career. But I knew coming in that he was going to be challenging, and I was happy to walk away with the victory."

Former boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez led his son into the ring to an eruption of applause. The elder Chavez then did color commentary for the pay-per-view broadcast.

The fight was Chavez's first since 10-round unanimous decision over Troy Rowlands in November that was changed to a no-contest after he tested positive for a banned substance a diuretic and was suspended for seven months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The fight also was Chavez's first with trainer Freddie Roach, who guides WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Chavez returned to the place where he watched his father fight to a controversial 12-round draw against Pernell Whitaker in 1993.

"To fight in the same building that my father did is almost surreal for me," Chavez said. "I never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd be headlining at the Alamodome."

On the undercard, Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7) unanimously outpointed Adailton DeJesus (26-5) in a 10-round lightweight fight.

Cotto Cruises To Victory Over Foreman

Written by Lee Skavydis

Miguel 'Angel' Cotto made a successful debut at 154lb tonight as he stopped Yuri Foreman in the 9th round to capture the WBA Light-Middleweight title.

Miguel looked pensive during the pre-fight introductions while champion, Foreman looked relaxed and focused.

Cotto's new found jab was evident from the very beginning as he continually caught Foreman with it, followed by well timed right hands in the first two rounds and Foreman was seemingly reluctant to throw punches in fear of being tagged.

Williams vs Cintron

Written by Arvin Nundloll

The “Most Feared Fighter in the World”, Paul “The Punisher” Williams was just heating up in the fourth round when his opponent, Kermit “The Killer” Cintron disappeared from the ring and fell onto a table at ringside at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA..

Doctors felt that Cintron could not continue and thus the bout went to the scorecards with two of the three judges scoring the bout in favor of Williams, thus giving the talented southpaw the technical decision.

Judge James Jen Kin had the bout 40-36 and Fritz Werner scored it 39-37, both in favor of Williams.  Judge Jerry Cantu saw the talented Puerto Rican Cintron ahead at 40-36. .

While Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. continue to bypass Williams, the talented southpaw’s promoter Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions feels his man is more than ready and “the weight is over”.
